Unity vs Godot Keyboard Shortcuts: Every Key Compared

Moving from Unity to Godot? Every documented editor shortcut of both engines, side by side for Mac and Windows: the keys that carry over, and the ones that do something else.

Godot's editor keeps the transform keys most 3D tools share, so a move from Unity starts on familiar ground. The differences come from how Godot is built: everything is a scene of nodes, and scripts open in Godot's own editor, so its keys add, rename and run scenes where Unity's handle GameObjects and assets.

Every documented key, side by side

Each row is a key combination. "Different action" means both engines document that combination for something different — the keys your hands will get wrong first.

Moving from Unity to Godot: the keys that change

In the viewport, Q is the one tool key to relearn: Unity's View tool pans, Godot's Select mode picks. T and Y switch Unity to its Rect and Transform tools; in Godot's 3D view they toggle local space and snapping. Shift+F locks Unity's view to the selection but turns on Godot's freelook.

Outside the viewport, Ctrl+A adds a child node in Godot's scene tree rather than selecting everything, and Ctrl+K comments a line in the script editor rather than opening search. To play-test, Godot documents F5 for the project, F6 for the open scene and F8 to stop — ⌘B, ⌘R and ⌘. on a Mac.

Which reference to pin

Keep the engine you are learning within glance distance while the old habits fade. Both posters show every key on this page, grouped the way each editor groups them.

FAQ

Does Godot use the same shortcuts as Unity?
Partly. W, E and R move, rotate and scale in both, F focuses the selection and Ctrl+D duplicates. Q, T, Y, Shift+F, Ctrl+A and Ctrl+K do something else in each engine.
How do I run my game in Godot?
F5 runs the project and F6 the scene open in the editor; F8 stops it. On a Mac they are ⌘B, ⌘R and ⌘.
Can I change Godot's shortcuts?
Yes: in Editor › Editor Settings › Shortcuts. Unity has its own Shortcuts Manager for the same purpose.
Where do these shortcuts come from?
From each engine's official documentation. Every app page lists its sources and the date its shortcuts were last checked.
