Unity vs Unreal Engine Keyboard Shortcuts: Every Key Compared

Unity and Unreal Engine share most viewport keys. Every documented editor shortcut of both, side by side for Mac and Windows, with the few that differ first.

Both engines build on the same 3D conventions, so the hands move between them more easily than between most pairs of tools. The differences are in what each editor adds on top: Unity's snapping and Project window keys, Unreal's play-in-editor, content browser and Blueprint graph keys.

Every documented key, side by side

Each row is a key combination. "Different action" means both engines document that combination for something different; the shared keys follow, then each engine's own.

Moving between Unity and Unreal

In the viewport, only Q needs relearning. Unreal flies the camera while you hold the right mouse button and press W, A, S and D, and pans with Alt and the middle button; Space cycles its transform gizmo.

The rest is Unreal's own: Alt+P plays in the editor and Alt+S simulates, Ctrl+Space opens the content browser, and F7 compiles a Blueprint. On a Mac, Ctrl becomes ⌘ for the editing keys.

Which reference to pin

Pin the engine you open every day. If you switch between both, the shared keys above are already in your hands — the posters keep each engine's own keys in sight.

FAQ

Does Unreal Engine use the same shortcuts as Unity?
In the viewport, mostly: W, E, R, F and V do the same thing in both, and so does the Alt + mouse camera. Q selects in Unreal but pans in Unity.
How do I play my level in Unreal Engine?
Alt+P plays in the editor and Alt+S simulates. F10 ejects from or possesses the player while it runs.
How do I move the camera in Unreal Engine?
Hold the right mouse button and use W, A, S and D to fly, E and Q to rise and sink. Alt with the left button orbits, with the right it dollies, with the middle it pans; F focuses the selection.
Where do these shortcuts come from?
From each engine's official documentation. Every app page lists its sources and the date its shortcuts were last checked.
